Ohio voting rights advocate Paddy Shaffer has unearthed fascinating information regarding apparent insider tampering with a 2004 sheriff's race. While inspecting the ballots under Ohio right to know law, Shaffer noticed nearly identical handwriting on hundreds of write-in votes for sheriff. The write-ins spanned different voting precincts and appeared to be done with the same writing implement. Insider tampering is a very serious matter; unless an investigation discovers who did it, tampering may continue into the next election. Shaffer brought the evidence to the attention of law enforcement officials, but nothing was done about it. Shaffer, a staunch believer in public oversight, came up with a creative way to call attention to the Coshocton County ballot tampering. She's created a contest, setting citizens loose to collect writing samples from Coshocton public officials. I don't know if 'fun will be had by all' but I have been told there will be prizes. Ohio Election Justice Campaign (OEJC) is a coalition of concerned citizens from across Ohio. The group seeks to raise citizen awareness of election justice issues through education and to encourage elected officials to enforce the rule of law in Ohio. Below is the news announcement about their new Coshocton County contest: Coshocton Tribune - April 30, 2009 http://www.coshoctontribune.com/article/20090430/NEWS01/904300313 2004 election fraud focus of contest COSHOCTON - The independent Ohio Election Justice Campaign is sponsoring a contest to encourage public input into the investigation of alleged election fraud in the 2004 sheriff's race won. A meeting will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Coshocton Library, 655 Main St., in which the suspect ballots and other information can be viewed. Paddy Shaffer, director of the OEJC, alleges that hundreds of write-in votes for former sheriff David Corbett, who ran unsuccessfully against Tim Rogers, were penciled in by an individual or several individuals and that the write-ins were scattered throughout each of the county's 43 precincts. This article is also archived in the Ohio - Coshocton County section of this Web site. |

UPDATE: sent by e-mail from Paddy Shaffer The Ohio Election Justice Campaign ANNOUNCES ITS FIRST CONTEST, AWAKENING THE CITIZENRY AS INVESTIGATORS Election Fraud Investigation Contest Like the game of Clue, we want to know: Who Did It, Where, And When? Join the Ohio Election Justice Meeting Tuesday, May 5, 2009 and look at photos of the actual ballots . The same handwriting shows up over 6,800 times and is in ALL 43 precincts for write-in sheriff candidate David Corbett. Deputy Director of the Board of Elections Kathy Hendrick said, "We never had a write-in candidate get that many votes." How did they not notice problems with the same handwriting? Each write-in ballot was tallied by visually reading the handwritten name on election night, then they were all viewed in a second counting, and again at the 2004 recount. Why will the sheriff, prosecutor, Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, and the Ohio Attorney General not investigate? The actual ballots are already in the custody of the Secretary of State. The Attorney General has a handwriting expert on staff, yet haven't looked. It seems it is time for the people's investigation and people's court. See the ballot photos, learn the details, help solve the alleged crime. Meeting 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday May 5, 2009 at the Coshocton Library, 655 Main St. Coshocton, Ohio 43812 |

What a fabulous idea! It is citizens like this who make a real difference. Hopefully, she will make it also an online contest so we can all join in the fun and become witnesses to the crime. |
