NAY!!! You MUST VOTE! Nothing will change if we do not vote. Not all the machines can be "hacked" at the same time. |

Greetings, Mary Beth, and welcome. It's crucial to go out and vote. We must each get more involved in the democratic process--not less! Voting is also a fabulous opportunity to observe what's going on, and to photograph, videotape or audiotape if appropriate and legal to do so. Have a look at the Citizen's Toolkit (link is on the BBV Home page near top center), pick a module, and you'll get specific tips on things to look out for. |

Hi Mary Beth. DO PLEASE! exercise your civic duty and vote on Tuesday. Do your best to convince other like-minded folks to do the same. To not vote is not the answer; this is the kind of apathy that those in power are counting on. Don't give up hope, and I wish you the best.}} |

I have always thought that I lived in a country that I could be extremely proud of, however, after seeing the documentary on HBO I actually started to cry. I cried and my husband asked me why was a crying? My response was that this revelation of black box voter fraud was absolutely the last thing I could take in the long line of unforgiveable things from my government. It was the last thing that I thought I could hold onto that was still legitimate and now I know that my vote and other's vote is being sold to the highest bidder. How can the Americans that run Diebold, ES&S and the others be run by Americans and still lie and cheat their own people into believing that their machines can't be tampered with? How can any of them call themselves Americans? How can our government be so corrupt to believe that they can't be elected in a honest vote by the American people? What are they afraid of? I wouldn't want to be elected unless it was by a fair vote. But I guess it's like everything else in this country. They are looking out for themselves and the money they can make. I am just like Mary Beth, I don't know now if I even want to vote and this comes from a person who has voted EVERY available election since turning 18 and I am 48. Kim |

Hi Kim, I see this as a big call to all of US to start looking out for OURSELVES, in the best possible sense of those words. It is time for each of us to realize that overseeing elections and counting votes is not something that can be delegated to someone else (and certainly not to private companies, or to election officials who have no accountability). Ultimately the finger points back to each of us--we've been asleep at the wheel, and other people have taken over the driving for us. It's up to us to take steps to get involved again. It's not LESS participation we need--it's MORE participation! So don't just vote--volunteer to be a poll worker or election observer, find out about your local election system, and check out the great toolkit here. Get involved--more involved than you've ever been before. And encourage everyone you know to re-engage in the political process, including all aspects of elections, in ways that are appropriate to their interests and abilities. |

Hi, Kim, and welcome to Black Box Voting. I understand how you feel. Even though I've been working on this issue for so long, after seeing what happened in New Hampshire for the primary, I felt like I'd been gut-kicked. However. What choice do we have but to engage and fight for the voting rights of every American? Maybe we'll get elections back into the control of the public, maybe we won't, but if we give up and quit we lose our country by default.
quote:"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil Constitution, are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or to be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men." — Samuel Adams
And there are very important reasons to vote. The more votes, the more an unscrupulous person must tamper in order to prevail. The more tampering, the more anomalies appear, the more dangerous it becomes. There was one election official -- who shall remain nameless -- who was infamous for her election-rigging, and hated by the people in her county. She'd been an "elected" election official for years, but the last time she ran for office, she couldn't even rig her way to a win (and she was keeping the early voting machines in her own office!). There comes a point when, if enough people vote, it becomes impractical to alter the results. Not far from you, Kim, is a remarkable woman by the name of Kathy Greenwell who discovered altered results in Bullitt County and has been fighting a one-woman battle ever since. Her work is generating public awareness, which is a first step, and you can certainly help by talking about these issues as well. Watch for the 2008 Tool Kit, which will be out shortly (but not before the Kentucky primary -- and please do vote in that!). Tool Kit 2008 will contain specific actions you can take, both for preventive measures and to catch and expose misconduct. Hang in there, and thanks for participating at Black Box Voting!
