Wow, I went a week without receiving any post from BBV and then I have been getting so many and some from a idiot who is posting some boggus link. However, my link is not boggus it pertains to the Diebold touch screen and how it doesn't like to be touch.

Go here to read the story;
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20061006-7924.html
(the below is a snip of the article)
" Don't touch the Diebold touchscreen machines

10/6/2006 1:39:29 PM, by Ryan Paul

Last month, we reported on yet another election botched by defective Diebold voting machines. Maryland primaries were plagued by machine crashes and human error, leading Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. to insist that the state shelve the $100 million voting machines and return to paper ballots until the problems could be resolved. The state Board of Elections administrator vowed to "work around the clock" and put pressure on Diebold to ensure that the machines worked for the upcoming election. During a mock election yesterday intended to test Diebold's latest fixes, the problems continued but with much less severity. "

Michelle -- sorry about that. I accidentally broke the automatic e-mailing system when I posted a story last week; then I fixed the auto-email system, but coincidentally a spammer has been harassing us. He hits about twice a day. He's being dealt with, but it may take another day or two before we pick up enough of his bread crumbs to nuke him (and his brethren) entirely.

As the election, the Robin Williams movie, and other high-media events draw more attention, we'll probably get a lot more trolls and a lot more posts in general. Let me know, ya'll, if you would like to cut back on the auto-emails during election season.
WHAT TO DO WITH EVIDENCE:

"Never put it in a funnel."

Always PROPAGATE evidence to at least 5-7 different places:

- A reporter
- Black Box Voting
- Your local elections office (this will seed it into the public record)
- Your e-mail list
- Your local elections reform group
- The EIRS reporting system
- A blog
- Someplace unexpected

EVIDENCE = video, audio, photos, public records
(stories and anecdotes are not evidence)

Great article by the way -- I got a kick out of the result that Diebold "fixed" a problem by advising people not to touch the screens.

"Diebold touch-screens don't like to be touched."

Somehow when I travel by plane, I touch the screen for how many bags I have. It never flips my "one bag" to "two" and it never chokes, hiccups, glitches, gets too hot, or tells people not to touch its touch-screen.

As Dr. Henry Lee said in the O.J. trial, "I don' know. All I can say is, something is wrong."

Hey! This is a site( http://calvoter.org/voter/elections/2006/general/index.html ) that I think every Californian wants to visit before the election.
It gives a list of each proposition, candidate, measure. Who is paying for what candidate/proposition just click on the candidate or proposition then click on Financial information at the bottom of the page. It will tell you who is paying for what.
Then if you need your ballot information you can find it here; http://www.smartvoter.org/
Be prepared before you vote. Go find out who these people are that you are voting for, know who is paying for who/what.
Finally, have you own document. I mean you can say that this could be your evidence of who you voted for if you need to review your vote after the fact. Take a copy of this with you into the voting booth, keep it in a file if you vote absentee.
I don't know the legal weight of this, but everything helps. Plus, you can find out about your local candidates and state judicial candidates. If you are as busy as me, I need all the time saving resources I can find. This puts it all at your fingertips.

I am posting this here, because I didn't want to start another thread, and I honestly don't know how to post it. It is information I received from a yahoo news group I am a member of, but it is about HAVA funds in California. More specifically "SF, Cal".
Please read the following I think it is important information for BlackBoxVoting or other groups working to understand the state purchasing of voting machines;

Subject: HAVA $'s don't "sunset" on 31 Dec 2006...it's in the law ! (SF
Voting System buy )

Brad -- I am forwarding this to you in hopes of getting this
information
further disseminated. Since I wrote this, I have gotten further verbal
confirmation from Mr Edgardo Cortes of the US EAC that this is the
correct
interpretation of the law and SF Deputy City Attorney Ann O'Leary
(advisor
to the SF Election Commission) confirms that she has also gotten this
confirmation, though not yet as official correspondence.

I fell that, at this point, this information needs to be disseminated
widely
for 2 reasons:

1 -- There are likely other jurisdictions in the US who are
interpreting the
law to rush the commitment of funds against contracts for voting
equipment
and every day that passes makes it more likely they will sign a
contract

2 -- I am concerned at the slowness of an official correspondence from
the
EAC to the CA Secretary of State on this matter and that they are not
broadly issuing a directive and/or information letter to the US
jurisdictions on the correct interpretation of the law.

Should you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact
me

2006...it's in the law !
To: CalifElectionProtection <califelectionprotection@yahoogroups.com>

All -- It's pretty clear at this point that it is a misreading of the
law
that SF must obligate HAVA voting system money by 31 Dec 2006. Also,
I've
gotten verbal confirmation of this from the US EAC and am awaiting a
written
response.

To review: The contention of the SF Dept of Elections is been that it
cannot buy any equipment that isn't accessible with HAVA monies after
31 Dec
2006 and thus must execute a contract with Sequoia Voting Systems by
that
date if it wants to replace the existing system and all it's
components.

Title II (regarding payments) has 2 places where it assures that monies
already allocated don't expire and remain available until expended.
Relevant sections are: 252(e) and 257(b). Text of these sections
provided
below.

The section being quoted as a "sunset" on funding for equipment other
than
accessible is 301(a)(3)(C), however 301(a)(3)(C) clearly states "funds
made
available...after January 1, 2007". All funds currently available to
SF
(and, in fact, throughout the US) are already appropriated and
allocated.
Thus 301(a)(3)(C) has no effect on the money currently available in
California under HAVA.

Text of cited sections is below. Full HAVA text is available at:
<http://www.fec.gov/hava/hava.htm> http://www.fec.gov/hava/hava.htm
