Perhaps this has been discussed in another thread. If so, my apologies.

I know that BBV is encouraging We the People to be the media and encouraging our involvement at a local level. I heartily agree in that approach. But I wonder if there isn't another, parallel approach that should be considered.

I am thinking of a one day national conference or seminar for precinct election adminstrators to explain to them what the electronic voting pitfalls are and how to best deal with, mitigate, monitor, and report problems for the upcoming elections.

Another alternative would be the creation of a CD/DVD that explains this in VERY simple terms. Send the DVD to all election administrators -- many of whom balk at anything electronic and blanch if you try to tell them what a modem is. It should include a general description of how the various pieces of the system work, where possible pitfalls are, how the state officials and manufacturers have bypassed meaningful certifications, and specific things to look for during election day. It should also include contact information for election day support (BBV volunteers?) as well as a clear, concise procedure for reporting suspicious problems.

And it hasta gotta be somethin' that don't speak no techno jargon.

I know the state by state and local approach has many advantages. I worry, however, that many pockets of the nation will go unnoticed. Needlessly so.

I am often a Johnny-come-lately so maybe this has already been done. Does BBV or someone else already have such material?

Welcome Nels;
FWIW "I am thinking of a one day national conference or seminar for precinct election adminstrators to explain to them what the electronic voting pitfalls are and how to best deal with, mitigate, monitor, and report problems for the upcoming elections." - is usually done during training of 'poll workers' by the local election official(in CA, they are called Registrar of Voters or County Clerk). What they don't do is point out the basic issues to the poll workers ,such as not meeting FEC/EAC standards,'hackability', and such.
"And it hasta gotta be somethin' that don't speak no techno jargon. " -which is why hand marked,hand counted paper ballots is the best way to go; I have very educated people who look at a spreadsheet of machine/memory card errors that is sequentially arranged saying 'it's too technical and involved' for them to understand. So ordinary poll workers probably would be in favor of such hand counted paper ballots. No techie jargon there.
Please go thru the 'threads' here:

and you'll get a lot of answers to probable questions.
