Hi all,

I just had a short chat with Michelle Tassinari (Elections Director for MA), regarding info from the NASS (Nat. Assoc. of Sec. of State) conference in DC a few weeks back: The SoS of CA indicated that the ITA problems appeared to be an issue of miscommunication between ITA's, with each assuming the other would be doing the security testing that was not done (!). A panel from the NASED (Nat. Assoc. of State Elec. Dir. - a concurrent conference in DC) indicated similarly that any certification problems were just a "miscommunication problem". Also, this panel indicated that there are NO mandatory certification standards, they are all voluntary, and the question of "interpreted code" was also voluntary...

How 'bout THEM apples!...

Now, bear in mind, this the gist of it as described by our state's Election Director. She might have gotten it wrong...

Reminds me of Calvin from Calvin & Hobbes, when caught with his hand in the cookie jar he says, "I didn't do it, nobody saw me, and you can't prove a thing!"

Or in this case, "It's not a rule, I didn't do anything at all, and it's all the other guy's fault!"

...or she might be complicit in the cover up.
