One of the many so-called advantages trumpeted by DRE companies and advocates is the elimination of over-voting and under-voting. Just out of curiosity, we happened to be on the Diebold site where the FAQ http://www.diebold.com/dieboldes/faq.htm says with respect to under-voting: “The summary page will indicate via a distinct color which races have been under-voted.” So we tried the online demo Diebold provides at http://www.diebold.com/dieboldes/OnLine_Demo/screen1.html. What did we find? In the three race demo presented, we were able to successfully under-vote in two-thirds of the races on the ballot, without a “distinct color” (or any other warning) appearing, casting votes for only half the choices available! Sure, it's only an online demo, but . . . For a more detailed account and step-by-step instructions on how to undervote on a Diebold AccuVote terminal, GoTo: http://www.lootingofamerica.com/Diebold/IL_SBOE_Diebold_Demo_Package_16-Jan-06.p df We're sure the voters in DuPage County will look forward to using the Diebold AccuVote-TSX on March 21st! |
