Ever wonder how much the state voting machine examiners are being paid and what they do? Though the state examiners criticize the federal ITAs (and with good reason), they have been getting good money to examine your voting systems, and they have certified some surprisingly inadequate systems. Where exactly has the testing and certification process broken down? What kind of work are the state certifiers doing? How many hours do they put in? Who hires them? The documents linked below provide a great start to help the public oversee this more effectively. First, we have to know what's going on. Do you want to achieve real improvement citizens' ability to oversee our own elections? The BBV 2006 Election Cleanup Crew are people who want to open up what the heck's going in in our elections. We are starting right now to shed light on what's going on behind the scenes, to gather evidence that can be used to protect and defend the integrity of elections in 2006 and 2008. Strategy Focus on gathering evidence and start now if you hope to protect elections 2006 and 2008. If you need ideas on what to ask for, look for, or record, Black Box Voting will provide individual guidance by e-mail or in the one-on-one forum section, based on your location. Evidence = documents, videotape and recordings. Joan Quinn opens up Calif. state testing and certification info Look how much information California's Joan Quinn was able to open up to the public from a single well-crafted public records request. This information identifies work product (reports) that we can ask for by name in followup requests. Joan Quinn's records request, and California's answer: http://www.bbvdocs.org/CA/cert/quinn-prr.pdf (540 KB) The first surprise: Look how hefty the billings are for an entity called "R & G Associates LLC" (but you ain't seen nothing yet! More R&G billings follow.) This company paid David Jefferson approx. $50,000, and billed California much more. But R&G has now shut down its Web site, its phones are disconnected, and a visit to the office space listed on its current corporate registration revealed offices that have been vacated. The information below leads to more questions: Who is R&G, was this a no-bid contract, how was this firm selected, and did the elusive NDAs (nondisclosure agreements) that keep California examiners under gag order go through R&G? And by the way, where is R&G? And while I'm taking a break from uploading docs, here is a video of Joan Quinn standing up to the voting panel at a California certification hearing. http://www.bbvdocs.org/videos/TheMightyQuinn.mpg
