I like the effort to come up with valid reasons -- we have to have that to make sure our arguments are valid. Here's my response to using a fundamentally tamper-friendly architecture to save costs:

Let's save costs. I think we should skip the step of installing locks on the election office doors. In fact, let's not have doors. Saves a lot of money.

Thanks, paniq. Without a foil to duel with, we end up preaching to ourselves and our arguments will not be as sharp. Keep it up.

The public must be able to see and authenticate these four essential steps for an election to be public, democratic, and valid: (1) Who can vote (voter list); (2) Who did vote (3) The original count; (4) Chain of custody.
