Subject: Timelines on Diebold meltdown Dear Black Box Voting: Can you help me with some questions on the timeline of the Diebold meltdown? What year did Diebold buy Global Election Systems? What year did Diebold sell voting machines to the state of Georgia? What was the date that Bev Harris found the Diebold FTP site? When was it first disclosed that patches were put on the machines in Georgia? When was the Rush Holt Bill first proposed? When was congress first told about Diebold vulnerabilities? When was the GEMS hack first publicly exposed? When did the state of Maryland buy Diebold? What was the exact date of the Avi Rubin report? When were the Diebold memos leaked? What was the date of Wally O'Dell promising the election to Bush? When was the Black Box Voting web site taken down by Diebold? When was the SAIC report put out? When did the Swarthmore students put the Diebold memos on their web site? When was it first published that Diebold was using uncertified software? When was the first lawsuit filed against Diebold (I think it was by EFF) When was the Wexler suit filed? When was the TrueVoteMD suit filed? When was the false claims lawsuit filed against Diebold? When was VerifiedVoting founded? When was BlackBoxVoting founded? When was VoteTrustUSA founded? When did the RABA report come out? When was it first published that Global and Diebold had hired convicted felons? When did the CompuWare report come out? When were the Jones Day documents leaked? When was the James Dunn declaration? When was Diebold decertified in California? When was the famous "Diebold dumpster dive"? What was the date that Bev Harris showed Howard Dean how to hack Diebold? When was the chimpanzee taught how to hack Diebold? What was the first evidence that Diebold systems were hacked in a real election? What date were the Volusia County tapes found in the trash? When was the Diebold TSx certified? When did the first hack happen by Dr. Thompson happen in Leon County? When did Mississippi buy Diebold? When did Utah buy Diebold? When did Harri Hursti first get involved? When was it found that Rose & Kindel lied about their lobbying payments from Diebold? When was it found that Juan Andrade was taking money from Diebold? When was it found that Pat Gallina took money from Diebold and paid it to the Republican party? When was the optical scan hack done in Leon County by Harri Hursti? When did public officials first find out about the Leon County Harri Hursti report? When was the stockholder's suit filed? When did California ask Black Box Voting to hack the Diebold machines? When did California ask David Jefferson, David Wagner etc. to write the report about interpreted code and AccuBasic? When was the VoterAction lawsuit against Diebold certification filed? When was the Bowen certification hearing? When was that report finally published? When was Diebold kicked out of North Carolina? What was the date of the TSx studies in Emery County? When did Michael Shamos announce emergency security measures? When was the SEC investigation started? What are the exact dates of Hursti Reports I, II, and IIa? WHAT DID I MISS? I'm trying to start a timeline to identify who knew what and when. (Message edited by mmarcus on May 17, 2006) |

Hi Marcus! Welcome to Black Box Voting.org. Nice list to begin with. I think you'll find most of the answers right here on this site. Many of the dates your looking for are probably covered in the Black Box Voting book. The rest can most likely be found by using the Advanced Search feature on the upper left hand side of the page. When was Black Box Voting published? When did Diebold stockholders file the second lawsuit? (I think there are 2) I THINK THERE ARE AT LEAST A DOZEN. CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS BEGIN WITH ONE, THEN ALL THE CLASS ACTION LAWYERS HAVE A CONTEST TO SEE HOW MANY CLIENTS THEY CAN FIND, AND TO DO THIS THEY FILE LAWSUITS SO THEY CAN SEND PRESS RELEASES TO GET PEOPLE TO KNOW ABOUT IT AND CALL THEM. AFTER AS MANY CLIENTS AS POSSIBLE ARE FOUND BY ALL THE DIFFERENT LAWYERS WHO FILE SUIT, THEY ALL MEET TOGETHER AND MERGE IT INTO ONE BIG CASE. THE LAWYERS WITH THE BEST INFORMATION AND THE MOST CLIENTS GET THE BIGGEST SLICE OF THE CONTINGENT FEE PIE. When did Global Election Systems split into 2 companies led by 2 brothers? around 1980: THE BROTHERS, BOB AND TODD UROSEVICH, FOUNDED DATA MARK SYSTEMS WHICH BECAME AMERICAN INFORMATION SYSTEMS, LATER ES&S. - IN 1994 BOB UROSEVICH LEFT AMERICAN INFORMATION SYSTEMS, CHUCK HAGEL TOOK OVER AS CEO. TODD STAYED THERE AS A VP. - 1996 BOB UROSEVICH FORMED I-MARK SYSTEMS. - IN 1997 I-MARK WAS SOLD TO GLOBAL ELECTION SYSTEMS AND BOB UROSEVICH WAS PART OF THE PACKAGE. - IN 1997 AMERICAN INFORMATION SYSTEMS ACQUIRED GIGANTIC BUSINESS RECORDS CORP'S ELECTION BUSINESS. NAME WAS CHANGED TO ELECTION SYSTEMS & SOFTWARE. - IN JAN. 2002, WHEN DIEBOLD BOUGHT GLOBAL, BOB UROSEVICH WAS GLOBAL'S CEO AND THEY BROUGHT HIM OVER TO DIEBOLD AS PRESIDENT OF DIEBOLD ELECTION SYSTEMS INC. - IN JULY 2004, AFTER BBV'S KATHLEEN WYNNE CLEANED OUT THE DUMPSTER GRABBING DOZENS OF BAGS OF FINANCIALS AND PROOF OF SARBANES-OXLEY ACT VIOLATIONS, UROSEVICH WAS QUIETLY MOVED ASIDE. CURRENTLY DAVE BYRD IS PRESIDENT OF DIEBOLD ELECTION SYSTEMS. When did BBV file 3000+ PRRs? NOVEMBER 2, 2004. THERE WAS NEVER ANY EXPECTATION THAT WE WOULD SPEND THE SEVERAL MILLION DOLLARS THAT WOULD BE REQUIRED TO COLLECT THEM ALL. THE PURPOSE OF FILING BLANKET NATIONWIDE RECORDS REQUESTS WAS TO PREVENT DESTRUCTION OF THE LOGS. YOU CANNOT LEGALLY THROW AWAY LOGS FOR WHICH THERE IS AN ACTIVE PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST. WE THEN STRATEGICALLY SELECTED THE ONES TO GO FOR. (HOWEVER, SOME JURISDICTIONS, LIKE DUPAGE COUNTY ILLINOIS AND KING COUNTY WASHINGTON, SAY THEY DESTROYED THE LOGS ANYWAY EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS AN ACTIVE PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST. CITIZENS IN DUPAGE HAVE ELEVATED THE RECORDS DESTRUCTION INTO A CRIMINAL COMPLAINT. When were results received to the PRRs? STARTED GETTING RESULTS NOV. 3 AND CONTINUED TO FIGHT FOR THE RESULTS ON VARIOUS FRONTS UP THROUGH NOW. WE STILL DON'T HAVE THE LOGS FOR OVER 300 PALM BEACH COUNTY MACHINES, DESPITE A LAWSUIT. When did the felon, eventually head-programmer of GES/Diebold (and possibly also ES&S?) get out of prison? JEFF DEAN. WE HAVE THAT IN OUR PUBLIC RECORDS SECTION OF THE DOCUMENT ARCHIVE, I HAVE TO LOOK IT UP. IT WAS 1996 OR POSSIBLY 1995. HE WAS WORKING FOR KING COUNTY ELECTIONS WHILE STILL IN PRISON. When was the NIST conference on security threats to election systems held? OCT. 4 2003 When was the GAO report on election systems published? AH. GOOD QUESTION. ANYONE? IT WAS SUMMER 2005, NEED THE DATE. When was ACVR founded? AMERICAN CENTER FOR VOTING RIGHTS, WHICH BRAD FRIEDMAN HAS INVESTIGATED. NEED TO GET THE DATES ON THIS. THERE ARE OTHER PSEUDO-GROUPS THAT HAVE BIT THE DUST. ONE WAS CALLED "THE CENTER FOR DEMOCRACY" -- EXPOSED BY ORIGINAL RESEARCH OF DAN SPILLANE, SHUT DOWN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY WHEN HE ASKED TOO MANY QUESTIONS. THEY SUPPOSEDLY MONITORED THE FLORIDA 2002 ELECTION. THERE WAS A B.S. AUDIT GROUP SET UP BY KIM CRANSTON (ALAN CRANSTON'S SON) SHORTLY AFTER THE NOV. 2004 ELECTION. When did ACVR first testify in public? When was an alternative election commission hearing held to protest the lack of citizen input into the "official" commission? JUNE 2005 IN HOUSTON, TEXAS, ORGANIZED BY KIP HUMPHREY When were election lawsuits filed in Ohio? THERE HAVE BEEN MORE THAN ONE. DECEMBER 2004 AND MULTIPLE ITERATIONS AFTER THAT. When were election lawsuits filed in New Mexico? VOTERACTION.ORG, LOWELL FINLEY - DEC. 2004 THEY WERE ALL OVER NEW MEXICO, NOT SURE OF FILING DATE FOR THEIR LAWSUIT. ANYONE? When were election lawsuits filed in Washington State? MAY 2004 AS I RECALL -- ANDY STEPHENSON'S EFFORT TO GET AN INJUNCTION TO PROHIBIT WASHINGTON FROM USING UNCERTIFIED SOFTWARE IN THE 2004 PRIMARY IN WHICH HE WAS A CANDIDATE. THE JUDGE DISMISSED THE CASE, UNFORTUNATELY. When were election lawsuits filed in Florida? SUSAN PYNCHON'S LAWSUIT WAS FILED ... I'M THINKING NOV. 22 2004. I COULD BE MISREMEMBERING, COULD HAVE BEEN NOV. 29. When was Jim March arrested for attempting to exercise his right to observe election counting in San Diego? JULY 26 3005 |

When was HAVA drafting begun? NOW THERE'S A VERY GOOD QUESTION. WAS IT ACTUALLY BEGUN BEFORE THE HANGING CHADS IN FLORIDA 2000? THAT WOULD MAKE A HELL OF AN INVESTIGATION! WHO STARTED THAT MESS AND WHEN? NOTE THAT THEY BEGAN DRAFTING THE PATRIOT ACT SEVERAL MONTHS BEFORE 911. When was HAVA passed? OCT. 2002, I'M THINKING OCT. 22 OR 23. ANYONE? |

John Gideon is famous at BradBlog and VoteTrust. He wrote here that he knows for a fact that a Georgia activist has known about Hursti II for four years. I think he made a mistake if the timeline is right. Four years ago is May 2002. If this is the timeline I think John Gideon is mistaken but his work is usually very accurate. The activist probably didn't know about it four years ago. Look at these timeline points. What year did Diebold sell voting machines to the state of Georgia? SALE CONSUMMATED MAR. 2002 What was the date that Bev Harris found the Diebold FTP site? JAN. 23, 2003 When was it first disclosed that patches were put on the machines in Georgia? AUG. 2002 IN A MEMO FROM CHRIS RIGALL, A SPOKESPERSON FOR THE GEORGIA SECRETARY OF STATE'S OFFICE. Is the person who says she knew about Hursti II four years ago the same Roxanne Jekot that was this sites webmaster according to the timeline? What does it mean she helped Diebold take it down? When was the Black Box Voting web site taken down by Diebold? SEPT. 23, 2003 BUT ONLY INDIRECTLY BY DIEBOLD. THERE WERE OTHERS INVOLVED IN THE TAKEDOWN, PRIMARILY ROXANNE JEKOT, WHO BROKE AWAY TO FORM HER OWN GROUP, COUNTTHEVOTE.ORG. PRIOR TO THAT SHE HAD BEEN A VOLUNTEER WEBMASTER HERE. Is Roxanne Jekot one of the people at Democratic Underground saying there is nothing new in Hursti II? |

Marcus - Yes, good catch! Roxanne Jekot posts at Democratic Underground under the fake name "boredtodeath". She is a convicted felon (one year in federal prison, bank robbery) and recently harassed Raw Story posing as a member of the Georgia Lt. Governor's staff. Here are some links: Roxanne Jekot - also known as vgebert, demactivist, boredtodeath, saddeneddem, maddie mccall and roxannej. She also has alter egos containing the name "Molly." Convicted felon for bank robbery, one year prison sentence, served in Illinois. BBV has thus far not posted the prison records, which contain additional information. Jekot also occasionally goes after Brad Friedman (bradblog) and has a history of disruption and erratic behavior on other forums. Jekot runs an organization called "Countthevote.org" She apparently was a paid researcher for Steven Hertzberg's Election Science Institute (ESI). (From Raw Story)
quote: A woman named Roxanne Jekot has been e-mailing us, claiming to represent the Lieutenant Govenor. She wants to know the identity of one of our sources, and has even threatened to subpoena the individual. Raw Story would certainly never impede justice, but I can't find anything tying her to the Lieutenant Governor's office, and frankly, her behavior has been less than reassuring. I have attached the e-mails we've exchanged in this message. In the first, she claims to be acting as an agent of the Lt. Governor. In the last, she threatens to subpoena. I have removed the name she's "fishing" for, to protect the identity of our source. http://spoofilms.livejournal.com/171668.html
} Jekot recently outed the person she claims is "Dieb-Throat" on Democratic Underground. While a volunteer webmaster for Black Box Voting back in 2003, she outed the e-mail for the leaker of the Diebold memos to a reporter. That incident caused us to avoid forevermore accepting volunteer help on our Web site. http://countthevote.org/targeted/targeted.htm boredtodeath is a little ... uh, different. The following post will tell you all you need to know about whether you should take her smears against us, Brad Friedman, or Raw Story at all seriously:
quote:http://www.tvnewslies.org/scgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi/archive/Daily_Headlines/2006022 6003919/ Tuesday, February 21st [2006]: "Police State America!" Guest: Roxanne Jekot, a dedicated activist for election reform--so sharp, and so dedicated, that she's being persecuted by the state of Georgia, where she lives and works with ever greater difficulty.
She once posed as a bird expert, but was disruptive and abusive on Internet bird forums:
quote: Warning to Newbies about Roxie Jekot "Roxie appears here at irregular intervals, primarily to bitch, rant, and complain...She in no way speaks for, or otherwise represents the group as a whole, or any of the individuals that post here. If Roxie in any way disagrees with any poster, in content, or form, she goes into a cycle of attempts to belittle, correct, and modify the poster (and groups) behavior... The rest of the group will be happy to entertain your questions and assist in any way possible.
She also managed to offend an online group focusing on ponds, and has blamed everything but the Invasion of the Body Snatchers on Black Box Voting. One of her talking points is that "Bev Harris" helped "kill" Andy Stephenson, a former employee of BBV. She also seems to think we tried to kill her husband. Here's a particularly unbalanced email she sent around in the election reform community:
quote:- [Bev Harris cost me] nearly the ultimate price, my husband's death. You see, it was Bev Harris who prompted me to beg the doctors to release my husband after his heart attack...You see, this reporter, knowing I was sitting a death watch at CICU with my husband of 25 years, the father of my children, was THREATENING me. At the urging of Bev Harris... And then, after losing 8 months pay to stand up against ESI and their prostitution of our work, I STILL didn't bring that trash to the list for the same reasons. I begged my family to bear with me as I fought for something bigger than the home we lost to foreclosure (thank to ESI and 8 months lost pay), as we faced upheaval and poverty, and disconnected heat..." * * * * *
As they did on the birds list, the ponds list, and various other lists, we have decided to issue a warning about this individual. She is very active posting smears when we break a good story or she doesn't get what she wants. Note the discrepancies when deciding who to believe. In the crazy "she harassed me in the hospital" email she states that losing her job with ESI caused her to be unable to make the payments, which caused her to lose her home. At her Web site, she claims it is a conspiracy launched by the state of Georgia. Roxanne Jekot's "vgebert" personality on Daily Kos uses the name of her husband David Jekot's aunt, the late Virginia Gebert of Chicago, who died in 2003.
quote: Obituaries GEBERT, VIRGINIA 21 November 2003 Chicago Tribune Chicago Final Virginia Gebert, suddenly, beloved daughter of the late Mitchell and Stella; loving sister of Dorothy (Joseph) Johnson and the late Adrianne (the late Stanley) Jekot; fond aunt of Jack Johnson, Sandra Murray, Linda Richards and David Jekot. Funeral Saturday 9:30 a.m. from Gibbons Funeral Home...
She was kicked off of Kos, but the administrators of Democratic Underground allow her to post whatever she wants, often banning those who try to rebut her. Therefore, congrats, Marcus, for exposing her nutty claim that Harri Hursti is "a figment of Bev Harris's imagination." Classic conspiracy theory stuff. I, too, was surprised to see that John Gideon had fallen for it. I imagine he'll post a correction at some point, as he is pretty meticulous about the accuracy of his own reporting. Gideon is one of the credible voices in this issue, and was probably in a hurry or doesn't know Roxanne Jekot very well. There are some who believe Jekot may have another agenda, though I don't know what that would be. She once posted that she had been working secretly with other people on the Diebold files during the time she was webmaster at BBV. However, it's hard to take that seriously since her other claims are so preposterous. |

Compuware Report was dated November 21, 2003 on its cover page. It is a must read for anyone interested in electronic voting systems. It was the first and only time (so far) that any "independent" group of computer specialists have examined 4 different vendors' voting systems. They were Diebold, Hart, Sequoia, and ES & S. Every one had low, medium, and high security risks. It also provides a very good examination of all the various attackers and possible motivations. I consider it a watershed document because it was commissioned by the Ohio Secrettary of State. Despite all it contains the election officials decided to use "procedures" to compensate for poorly designed and insecure voting systems. Taken together, the evidence that emerged in 2003 and 2004 was overwhelming that these systems were poorly designed and very susceptible to manipulation. In that two years Bev found the FTP site, and the later John Hopkins study. The Memos revealed that the Diebold programmers, sales people, and management knew that Diebold voting systems had defects, that the insecurities had been used to change election outcomes, and that failures and risks were ongoing. Then the SAIC Report, the RABA Report, the second Compuware Report, etc. Despite all that the November 2004 election went forward using these defective and insecure voting systems. No election official in the country can claim ignorance to the shortcomings and vulnerabilities in these machines. Grassroots activists have sprung up throughout the country trying to dissuade their own election officials from succumbing to the alluring carrot of federal money, and the stick of DoJ enforcement of HAVA. The heroes among election officials are few and far between. The norm has been to cover up and deny there exists any problems. If the problems were uncovered the local election officials would rather blame their poor poll workers than admit they had purchased unreliable and risky voting systems. Re the referral of the California SoS to his Voting Technology Board. The original letter had gone to Ciber asking them to examine the source coding for the memory card and check on the compilers and interpreters. That was taking longer than he wanted, especially after he had stated in public that he would not certify the TSx without a report back from the ITA. When it was not forthcoming in the early part of January he decided to also turn over the task to his own technology team. They were provided ONLY the related source coding related to the memory card and the firmware it had to work with. NOT a machine, not a memory card. They were given two basic questions to answer. I have copies of these documents obtained through a public records request. They issued their report on February 14 to the SoS. They suggested mitigations based only on the coding they had before themselves. They did not have an actual machine to see that the memory card could be accessed through other ports, or, as was revealed in Utah, just by removing 8 philips screws. To cover for the memory card hack the mitigation was to put security tape over the access door. They did the best they could with the information provided to them and the limited parameters. The SoS issued his Certification on February 17, late Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend. The report was not released until the next week. There is also documentation (audit logs) showing that there were many unexplained manipulations of audit logs in San Diego in the election this spring. I do not want to go into all the illegal actions that have occurred, and are occurring in California, on a message board tonight. As Bev has found throughout the country, the election industry is like a buried body, the closer you dig the more it stinks. |

Thank you, Jody. I'll update the CompuWare timeline above. The stench of the body becomes more and more clear, and some of those who have been involved in coverup surely know they have to shut the citizens up or go to jail. Millions of dollars are being spent on coverup. Fortunately for the citizenry, truth is a whole lot cheaper than lies. |

I think AVCR testified just days after it got its website up in the Carter-Baker commission. BradBlog reported on this but I don't know the date. It was near the time of the Houston alternative hearing. This was a scandal because AVCR was obviously NOT a grassroots group yet magically they were the only "activist group" invited to "testify" before the official Carter-Baker commission. |

Another aspect of the fight for transparent and accurate elections, and the upholding of the laws related to elections, is the failure of the courts to uphold both the spirit and the letter of the law. Some of the most specious fallacious arguments are contained in judicial opinions. The tendency is to adopt the position and arguments of the election officials rather than enforce the laws as written. Examples: Weber in a Ninth Circuit Opinion. Soubirous in a California Appellate decision. The suit filed by Lowell Finley in February 2004 to prevent the use of the TSx for the California Primary in March 2004. One glimmer of hope was the federal district court upholding Kevin Shelley's Directives in 2004. Ohio's lawsuits have also been infamously supportive of election officials over the interests of the voter and the law. Another famous (?) incident was the miracle reversal of the election outcome in the Alabama governnor's race in 2002. One thing I decided to do a long time ago was to download and keep copies of various available documents or articles. They do tend to disappear off of websites. I also would recommend going to www.votersunite.org and clicking on the selected news articles from around the country categorized by voting system vendor. Both John Gideon and I have been subscribing to Google's automatic news search feature using particular key words or phrases. It allows you to pick up on locally reported stories from around the country, and even the world. You quickly become aware that these voting systems are not only insecure, they are unreliable, much more expensive to maintain than represented, and there are certain stock framing words used by election and vedors throughout the country to mislead the public (and press) regarding the real cause of all these voting problems. |

Roxanne Jekot forging evidence? Is there any level this person will not stoop to? 1. This evening, someone posted a clarification from Doug Jones. He clearly states that the Hursti report contains a lot of new information, and he also condemns people like David Allen and Roxanne Jekot...people like them, who say the Hursti report "didn't report anything new." http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203 x428008#428826 2. Roxanne Jekot shows up in the same thread, she states that "evidently Doug Jones needs all the evidence," and then copies and pastes something from her own site countthevotes.org which supposedly proves that "evidently Doug Jones needs all the evidence." http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203 x428008#428839 3. Clicking on the link she provides to her own website from her DU post, we see the same post. http://www.countthevote.org/elec_center_0403.htm 4. However, if you right-click on the page, and select PAGE INFO, you can quickly see that Roxanne modified this page today! Modified: Friday, May 19, 2006 5:07:51 AM On top of that, the front page of her limited, often-neglected website does not contain a link to this page. 5. I decided to look further! If Roxanne had really posted this in 2004 (The link shows a date of 0403 - either "March 2004," or April 3rd, 2004 - less than 24 hours after the split between our esteemed Bev Harris, and her former publisher David Allen became public knowledge), there should be evidence somewhere... 6. But the Internet Archive capture of her front page on April 5th 2004 clearly shows there is no mention of this supposed "evidence": http://web.archive.org/web/20040405130011/http://countthevote.org/ And the Internet Archive capture of her front page on May 20th 2004 shows no mention of this supposed "evidence": http://web.archive.org/web/20040520014620/http://www.countthevote.org/ Why, even the first Internet Archive capture for 2005 clearly shows there was never any mention or link to this supposed "evidence": http://web.archive.org/web/20050202082412/http://countthevote.org/ 7. And finally, a definitive example of the Internet Archive's ability to help researchers separate the real BBV activists from the fake ones: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.countthevote.org/elec_center_0403.htm I urge Roxanne to apologize to the members of DU, for yet again misleading them - but considering her track record, one should not hold his/her breath waiting! Is there any chance 0403 could be April 2003? I don't think this would make sense but I'd like to know what you think. I went onto the CTV website and I see what you mean. This does look strange--as if they added a page recently but are trying to make it look as if it had been there all along. Why would there be no link to it from the CTV home page? Was it put up now just for the benefit of DU readers? Why would an election reform organization go to so much trouble to create the impression that there is nothing new in Hursti II? What is the track record of CTV? Isn't this typical of the kind of posts or dialogue that go on at DU? From what I have seen, some of the people who post there about election reform appear to engage in an organized, heavy-hitting libel/disinformation campaign in relation to BBV. Am I exaggerating? |

Well, she posted at DU: "Published on the CounttheVote.org website in 2004 in response to Brit Williams:" http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203 x428008#428839 And you're not exaggerating at all Catherine. |

Push-back is evidence that the work by Black Box Voting is effective. Good catch, John Dean. There seems to be a strong theme of asserting "origination" in the disinformation campaign at Democratic Underground. Why it is considered so important to divert origination is something to ponder, but not at the expense of continuing our work. Some kinds of litigation require origination status, and also some kinds of egos require it. By the way, I am very excited about some of the things we are launching next week. Those tiring of the intramural back and forth, have faith that we are marching forward. |

New here I have been a bit of a muckracker in my town on a local blog site - www.aboutforsyth.com My focus is on public education in my town so it is a bit off- topic here, but also interested in the voting problem, since it does greatly affect the election process in our Board of Ed and local politics --- What is the deal with the Roxanne Jekot - is she legit or what - any factual information you can post on www.aboutforsyth would be helpful. I don't know whether to believe her claims or not on that site or any other. |

Hi, Terry, and welcome to Black Box Voting. Solutions to the issues we work on here at Black Box Voting (election integrity) are effectively addressed at the local level. I love meeting people who are involved in local good government actions. Even if you are not working on elections, I think you'll find out Tool Kit helpful for the work you're doing in Forsyth County Georgia: http://www.blackboxvoting.org/toolkit.html From what I understand, Roxanne Jekot is involved in a very important lawsuit right now in Georgia, and she's done some valuable work in election reform. She does get involved in online disputes and vendettas which is unfortunate. The rules of Black Box Voting are that we focus on issues, not motivations or personalities, so to that end I'm going to return to some of the issues that affect Forsyth County and Georgia in general: Like many, we at Black Box Voting support the Georgia effort to free the vote data files, and we are watching the current lawsuit there with great interest. We should all be supporting the courageous efforts of the Georgia citizens who are fighting the current lawsuit, and we should especially take our collective hats off to the honorable Cynthia McKinney, who has been a driving force behind the efforts to clean up Georgia elections. I was interested to see a reference on the Forsyth forum by Jekot to Election Science Institute - she mentioned that they are closing up shop. That should be treated as a rumor unless it is confirmed. ESI did an important report in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. If anybody has solid information on the status of ESI, I'd be interested in seeing it -- but post it in a new thread. # # # # # ... Government is the servant of the people, and not the master of them. The people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know. We insist on remaining informed so that we may retain control over the instruments of government we have created.
