How much do we have to fear from Sequoia? I was moved to send congratulations to BBV for helping out in the Utah case recently posted by Bev, but the link brought me here, so I'll do it this way. I can't believe either the Utah officials who supported Diebold and intimidated the poor election chief, nor Diebold, though their true colors have been amply demonstrated for years. We're now with Sequoia. How much do we have to fear from them? |

Phil, Not to scare you, but.... http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/local/states/pennsylvania/counties/bucks _county/14229311.htm Sequoia has a wee little problem with their tabulation software. Seems one can alter the results tables without detection. Oops! |

Kurt, when you find important news articles like this perhaps you could post them to the News section. It'll make it easier for others to find, and it'll help keep discussions like this new one on topic. |

Hi Phil, that was a great idea to set up a new discussion topic. I think that BBV has changed its threads for important reports so that those threads don't get slowed down by accumulating hundreds of comments. Bev, if you see this, when you post a report to the BBV reports page that does not permit comments, could you simultaneously set up a similarly-titled discussion thread, and have a link for comments at the bottom of the BBV report? In your spare time, of course. |

Kurt... Thanks for the article. I just don't understand why election officials and Democrats in particular aren't outraged by our election technology problems and working tirelessly to get them fixed. ...or any fair-minded people, including Republicans, for that matter. |

We don't know as much about Sequoia (or any other vendor) as we do Diebold, because Diebold has been the sloppiest with their own document/online security. Diebold has proven themselves both ethically challenged and incompetent. It's not at all impossible that other vendors are just as dastardly but smarter, which in my opinion would be a more serious threat. We can go chasing the individual vendors for the next decade - knock down Sequoia, ES&S, Hart, and as we do the lesser vendors will each rise in their places. That's ridiculous. We need to strike at the heart of this multi-vendor beast, and that means exposing the test labs and certification systems at both federal and state levels. The California legislative hearing involving Wyle and Systest was the first real step: http://www.bbvforums.org/forums/messages/2197/27598.html?1146703058 There's three ways to dig into what's been happening regards certification: * Court discovery; * Legislative hearings (esp. if they're willing to use subpoenas); * Convince a state attorney general to dig into it with his police investigative powers (the state AG is the state's top law enforcement officer). In theory there's a fourth - get a Federal prosecuting attorney involved but...the political pressure that would come out of the US DOJ makes that highly unlikely. Hmmmm. You know, maybe there's a fifth. A county DA in Diebold-customer-county opening up a fraud investigation. That last needs pondering, it's an avenue we've completely missed... * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TRIPLE PROTECTION FOR ELECTION 2006 - STARTING NOW: (1) Use Freedom of Information, public records requests ("All American Paper Chase") (2) Try Dumpster Diving for Democracy (3) Candid America Project - Don't leave home without your camcorder HOW TO DO IT: http://www.bbvforums.org/forums/messages/6/6.html
