I am a student doing a research project on electronic voting. With the aim to demonstrate the bugs in the Diebold software, I would love to run the software, a simulator, or simply have consecutive screenshots or a technically oriented video to show. |

Great! How tech-savvy are you? Jim March, one of our investigators, once produced the "Rig-a-Vote" CD containing real Diebold softwar and instructions. You can now download everything you need here on this site, but first -- let us know how confident you are in your techie abilities. The demo requires a fairly recent version of Microsoft Access. We also have a pdf of an overview of election manipulation techniques that you may find helpful: http://www.bbvforums.org/forums/messages/2197/10409.html It's large, allow time to download. Here is an install version of the GEMS central tabulator, along with links to where you can find real vote databases from the 2004 presidential election. http://www.bbvforums.org/forums/messages/2197/10519.html Let us know if you have questions. |

Will, If you're interested in demonstrating bugs in the ES&S software as well as Diebold, there is a web site which purports to be a public service of ES&S serving a number of counties in Ohio. http://www.ohiovotereducation.com/ Click on the link for the Interactive Voter Tryout which supposedly is a simulation of the actual iVotronic voting machine used in those counties. The Tryout has races for 'Top two favorite music artists' and 'Favorite ice cream flavor' amongst other questions. Try voting for Stevie Ray Vaughn and see what happens on the 'paper trail' (Someone else's name will appear) Under vote (make no selection) in the race for ice cream flavour - it will decide to vote Chocolate for you. If this is indeed a public service of ES&S, it may be a much bigger public service than they realize, since it offers the public a glimpse into the quality of the programming they do. (Having decompiled the demo, it's apparent that the Chocolate default is not just a failure of programming logic, it is an intentionally set default.) HG;) |

I am fairly tech savvy, but for anything that isn't working out for me, I have a software engineer specializing in security I am working closely with. The Rig-A-Vote files sound like they would be very valuable to me. Thank you very much! Not only for your response but your expedience. There is quite a mass of information in these forums and your help is much appreciated. That simulation is a good example I will encourage people to go try it. |

Will -- I'll ask Jim to get you a link to the original rig-a-vote presentation he created. This was a courageous move on his part -- he did this way back in August 2003. And when Diebold threatened him with removal of his Web site, he replied to Diebold "Make my day" and said he looked forward to discovery. After some blustering, Diebold never went after him. They realized that if they got into discovery, it was all over (and that remains true to this day. Diebold will settle anything rather than allow themselves to be taken into discovery. In fact, the moment certain key people from Diebold get under oath, especially if the interrogator is prepped with the right questions, it's all over). March then took the rig-a-vote show to reporters and even showed a radio talk show host how to rig the votes while on the air. You'll be shocked at how easy it is to tamper with the central tabulator. |

OK, I'm going to upload a bunch of stuff that hasn't been online for a while now. It'll be everything you need to build your own Diebold central tabulator box and "kick the tires" . Hang tight, I'm going to assemble it all in the document archive and once done sometime tomorrow AM I'll post links here. |

Hey Jim I was wondering how that collection was coming. I have some time yet, but I would love to have it for a presentation I have coming up. If you can let me know, that would be great. |

Hi Jim, It appears that the tread stopped back in April. I was wondering if you were able to get the information uploaded? John (Message edited by jfredette on August 31, 2006) |

Jim did post that in our archives, I believe. I'll pop back in here and provide the link. He also has it on his own Web site I believe. I'll range around and find both the links here and the links from Jim's equalCCW web site. # # # # # This Tool Kit is a Declaration of Independence for Citizens: http://www.blackboxvoting.org/toolkit.pdf - It's time for you to recognize your own power. - You don't need us. - You don't have to find someone to follow. - Pick any module. This is my first post. I downloaded the Citizen Tool Kit. I had it printed, and binded. It ended up costing around $35. Thats fine with me, lots of great info, but how do expect to 'give out' a Handbook to people at a meeting? It is too much money for little-ol me. Am I gonna do my part? You bet! Buddy, I'm looking into having it printed at lower cost. You are right -- big problem to reproduce physical copies the way it is right now. Thank you for posting the concern here, and I'll e-mail you when we have a good solution in hand. I have an idea in mind that may help.
