Verified Voting has published a useful guide for citizens on election observation restrictions organized state by state:

http://www.verifiedvotingfoundation.org/downloads/WHO%20CAN%20OBSERVE.pdf

As you can see, some states have very good policies allowing citizens to observe; others are "party-centric" meaning that only designated political parties can assign observers; still others have hybrid systems, party-centric in some aspects but opening up observation to some parts to the public.

This is a work in progress as they are still missing data for several states: (Alabama, Alaska, Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming)

You can sign up at http://www.verifiedvotingfoundation.org/ to help collect the missing data on this and other surveys.

"New Jersey allows watchers selected by a political party and by candidates or groups of candidates, and also allows children and adults engaged in educational programs."

Okay, so how do I go about requesting to be allowed to watch AND is there some restriction to what I will be allowed to view? As a high school educator, I feel this would be an incredible lesson to impart to my students.

Any ideas?
