Look at this site for Federal Government activities on voting equipment being done through NIST. Check out the "Threats to Voting Systems" workshop held in October 2005. Good info there.

I don't visit the site very often so I missed the earlier posts. That's great, thanks. I passed on the NIST links to my state and local elections officials. Haven't heard anything back. They seem to be wanting to do the right things but they are not very open or forthcoming about all the activities going on in the back rooms. They reference current legal authorities and laws and say there are "experts" working on system approvals and procedures. However there is nothing published anywhere on exactly what they are doing and what procedures they are following. It is hard to determine what threats they are working to mitigate or what they are doing concerning people and processes.
